We welcomed back the effervescent artist Warren Craghead ; and courageous professor and activist who lives out her exploration of race/ethnicity, religion, and politics Dr. Larycia Hawkins. [Craghead: minute 10:40; Hawkins: minute 35:55.]
Warren Craghead is an artist, creating compelling comics and drawings that deftly combine whimsy and stark reality, humor and politics. He has exhibited his work internationally and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. He draws extensively on the topics he’s passionate about from documenting the Armenian Genocide, to calling out misogynists in his LadyHaters series; and to playful drawings of his two young daughters. Now he’s published his second volume of daily grotesque portraits of Donald Trump, entitled TRUMP TRUMP: Modern Day Presidential.
We also spoke to visiting artist, Todd Webb whose illustration is being shown at Telegraph Art & Comics. Check out his work here!
We welcome back Larycia Hawkins. She is the subject of a new film, Same God which follows her journey from tenured professor at Wheaton College to her ouster for wearing a hijab in solidarity with Muslims — and for her Facebook post asserting that Muslims and Christians worship the same God. The film has been in festivals and diverse venues all over the country and the world, from film Charlottesville, L.A., and Cork Ireland to the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago. We discussed embodied solidarity, how to move forward toward justice, her thoughts on the Evangelicalism in this political moment, and much more.
