We spoke with investigative journalist and author Hawes Spencer about his new book Summer of Hate, and Indivisible Charlottesville's Ken Horne to discuss the upcoming election and the 5th district congressional race: Leslie Cockburn vs Denver Riggleman.

Hawes Spencer is an investigative journalist and author of the new book, "Summer of Hate," which details the events leading up to and following August 11 & 12, 2017 in Charlottesville. The book weaves in relevant history as a backdrop and sheds light on what happened and why— from the demolition of the African American neighborhood, Vinegar Hill and Massive Resistance to current actions or passivity at the University of Virginia.

Hawes has reported for the New York Times, Washington Post, Time Magazine, and many others. He also helped found Cville Weekly and the Hook.

Ken Horne is an artist, father, and clinical social worker particularly concerned about the corruption of the Trump administration.
